MERRY CHRISTMAS

Filed Under (Random Droppings) by Mike on 25-12-2009

MERRY CHRISTMAS to all my Ghost Droppings friends.
I just wanted to take a moment to wish all of you the best Christmas ever and remind everyone the reason for the season is not about loading your credit card more than your friends and family. Its About your friends, family and the birth of a child on this very day. The true meaning of today is love and caring of all the people that are important in your life.

Now that you remember what today is all about, I hope Santa left you something under the tree to help scare the crap out of some ToTs next October and save me a slice of turkey later on today.

Nightmare Before Christmas

Filed Under (Random Droppings) by The Adam on 23-12-2009

There has always been the question of whether or not “Nightmare before Christmas” is a Halloween movie, or a Christmas movie? I think it can be watched around Halloween and Christmas. I think Tim Burton (and co) did this specifically so it would be able to transition between these two holidays with ease. Now, whether he knew the movie was going to be a cult staple or not is a different discussion. I have always wanted to make wood or pvc cut outs of the characters from the movie for Halloween and Christmas. Accept for Christmas, I have to do Sandy Claws Jack, like this video (they have the right idea!).

The one thing I love about this movie is …well everything. I think I have thought about wanting to live in a neighborhood that perpetually celebrates Halloween about a dozen times. I could literally live in a Halloween neighborhood 24-7 and around Christmas, it can be joined with the Christmas decorations. Another thing I can relate to Jack Skellington is that without making/buying new Halloween props and decorations, Halloween feels slightly boring. Boring in the sense of, “I have to top what I did last year.” But what I think a lot of us yearn for is a sense of Halloween community, I think that is the real issue (I know I am going slightly off topic but hang with me). What’s missing (for me and it seems like others) is the whole neighborhood/community coming together to decorate. It seems most Halloween lovers want lots of decorated houses and lots of trick or treators. I am not sure where the sense of Halloween “neighborhood/community” went after the 80’s and 90s. Perhaps it is the lack of kids, but it seems now, many younger couples are currently having children. We can all hope for more trick or treators! As far as the neighborhood…around next Halloween season, I plan to try to rally the neighborhood. My neighbor two doors down, always does a great yard haunt like I do. Next year, he wants to take out ad space to advertise the neighborhood and flyer the whole damn town. We will see if that’s what it takes to get people to come out and decorate their own houses. I encourage you to do the same, to spread the Halloween spirit.

Now back to Nightmare Before Christmas! Perhaps one of the points is Jack got bored of Halloween all the time, he wanted something different. I think the video I posted above is exactly that! A bit of Halloween on Christmas, I mean why not? I keep the spirit with me all year round anyway, as well as little Halloween nick-knacks around my room. So have the Christmas spirit, but IT IS okay to spookify it up a little.

Creepy Holidays and Future of GD

Filed Under (Random Droppings) by The Adam on 19-12-2009

First I want to say Happy Holidays to everyone, no matter what holiday you celebrate. I hope its warm, wonderful and full of goodies….or in our case, creepy and spooky! Ponder a creepy Christmas for a moment…do you think the neighbors would notice “Nightmare Before Christmas” pumpkins out on my porch? I have always thought “Nightmare Before Christmas” was both a Halloween and Christmas movie with potential to be out for both holidays. I have always wanted to do a creepy tree for Christmas with Halloween ornaments. There are many ideas I have thought of including an orange tree, a black tree or a regular tree. I have been thinking a black tree would be hard to see black ornaments, or an orange tree would make it hard to see orange ornaments….any ideas on that? I think a black tree would be a better solution overall, but orange lights or white lights? Here is a great video with a mix of Halloween and Christmas, HA! So I can get away with Halloween on Christmas!!

I also wanted to address any worry, anger, or sadness over this website. I have received several emails regarding the lack of everything on Ghost Droppings, i.e. content etc. Here is the deal; there are plans to majorly update Ghost Droppings. As in brand new sections with decorating ideas, photos, how to’s, props, downloads (wallpapers etc), the ultimate Halloween lovers store resource, a massive collection of helpful links (through a very selective process) as well as more involvement with the Horror/Halloween industry and there may be a brand new forum (with lots of features) at some point. This is going to be a community effort, hopefully by a lot of people, so in saying this, I am going to need lots of help when it comes time. Plans to start the new website will begin sometime next year, so please keep that in mind while you are on this site. Also keep in mind, I am only one person working on this site, so if you have serious design skills or css 2.0 skills, content ideas (in regards to props, decorating etc) your ideas just might be included!

THIS IS IT

Well, my friends, the time is here. We have been working all year to get to this time. I know myself the last weeks have been very frantic trying to get all the props out and ready for the big weekend. Hopefully everybody is ready and going to have a great time, myself, I could be farther along but I’m not. Maybe next year will be kinder to me and I’ll get stuff done on time…..

Any way, just wanted to take a minute to say thanks to all of you for contributing to this great site and enjoy your weekend of scaring the crap out of the kidlets
